Panasonic has announced the launch date for the DMC-L1, its first digital SLR (SLR) camera with interchangeable lens announced. From 22 July 2006 this camera will be available in Japan and already looks set to be as the clear favorite.

The DMC-L1 has a new LEICA D Vario-Elmarit lens equipped with 14-50mm/F2.8-3.5Aperture ring, focus ring and zoom ring, for easy, direct aperture setting. The focal length range equivalent to 28 mm (wide) extendable up to 100mm (medium) on a 35mm film and delivers excellent results.
The lens also provides outstanding macro shots for a minimum of 29cm shooting distance (0.32x maximum magnification, 35mm equivalent) over the entire zoom range.
